I've been considering using VMD in a few rooms but there's to many
potential flaws :o(
Instead I've chosen to use ceiling mounted PIRs for occupancy
detection. The units I've got are small (45 x 45mm) recessed PIRs
which
are specifically designed for occupancy detection - not the same as
standard
alarm PIRs. I've used them before to control lighting in
offices.
They are extremely sensitive and will pick up any slight movement - ie.
when sat
on a sofa watching TV etc... I'm going to use them in all the rooms
in my
house for detection, so I can control lighting and heating depending on the
time
of day etc...
Mounted at 2.5m ceiling height they cover approx. 3.0m radius.
They
are 12V open collector switching so I can use them with HomeVision.
In
certain rooms I'm installing 2 per room, just to be certain.
Don't know the practicalities of this but if
you
had a camera in a room could you not use software to tell if someone was
moving around or even just sitting on the sofa. I know motion
detection
software is available but this would not help when sitting still,
the system could know what an empty sofa looks like so work
out if
someone was on it.
Any thoughts or should I shut up.
