If it was only so simple...it would of been 364gig of storage, but
once you've split them into 5 arrays (4 external, 1 internal) and
allowed for the RAID5 overhead it's more like 200gig.

Used to seem a lot, but anyone can go and buy a couple of 100gig IDE
drives for a desktop these days for much less money.

One of my 50ish gig arrays is almost full already of MP3's which
i'll distribute around the house.

I ended up taking the easy way out, and will be installing smallish
desktops in rooms. I'll probably use legacy lite IPAQ desktops,
which are small, stylish and on ebay etc, they can be cheap.

Anyway, it's thanks to you Phil that it's all running. Remember the
aircon pipe kit ? well thats where the aircon is.
Funny actually, we found the boiler had gone off to the house. It's
been faulty for a while, needing a tap on the base to trigger it off
(apparently a controller board error), but today we could not get it
to start up. I tried this morning, SWMBO tried when she arrived
home, and still no joy.
Anyway, when I came home I got it working. What had caused the fault
was that the boiler is in a room adjacent to Node 0, along with it's
Thermostat (nothing like new houses for you, what a clever design),
and the server has heated up the room nicely to about 27degrees, and
said thermostat thought the house was nice and comfy, and wouldn't
let the boiler fire up. It's now set at 35degrees, and i'm hoping to
god that it doesn't think it's still hot, otherwise we have a
problem until either the new boiler goes in, OR I move the
thermostat or bypass completely (it doesn't actually switch the
boiler on or off anyway, see : knackered circuit board).

One job done, three more now need doing. Always the way !
