Subject: [ukha_d] Visonic PowerMax home automation

Hi all,

I'm relatively new to this list, and firstly want to let you know I have limited technical knowledge...

However, as the below came in from Mark about the Visonic PowerMax i thought I'd fill you in on
the company I work for.

We are called Intamac Systems, based in Northampton, UK, and we are in the business of
Internet Accessed Monitoring and Control, launching with a service called 'Home Manager'.

In short, using a Visonic PowerMax and our services you can use your alarm system to control and
program your Home Automation from any internet accessed PC. If you don't have a PC at home, that's
OK as you can program your X10 and alarm from your work PC or even the local library. So now we're
bringing Home Automation through Power Max to people who don't even own a PC!!! (probably not
applicable to you on this list, but what about your Mum? fancy controlling her house? that'd be fun!)

Added to this is the security system itself: if an alarm is triggered in your property, Home Manager will
automatically phone your property to check for false alarms. If there is no response from the property,
Home Manager emails, phones and texts' your nominated 'contacts list' in order to tell them there is an alarm.
So rather than return home to an alarm bell ringing, you'll know about it straight away. You can even
nominate your next door neighbour as a contact so they can hotfoot round and sort it out.

You can add flood sensors, temperature sensors, panic alarms, fire alarms, PIR's, webcams, etc
to the Home Manager, so no matter what incident may occur at your property, you'll know about it straight away.

Of course the restriction is what technology is compatible with the wireless PowerMax...

We provide the same alarm system monitoring for an alarm panel "Scantronics 9750/9850" but it has no
X10 control in it, so its probably less relevant to this list!!!

As I mentioned I'm not a technical expert, but if anyone's got any questions, please feel free to contact me
and I'll try and find someone who knows the answers...

Cheers

Scott Crowther

Mine came form Gardiner Security who are a large security wholesalers in Kent. They do seem to only want to deal with trade people though. That said placing the order by phone, and paying by personal cheque and picking it up seemed no problem to them - go figure !!!

You need the XM10U also called a TW7223 - I used a standard modem cable to interface PowerMax to the XM10U.

Yes I have an external siren. I am by no means a burglar alarm expert, but from what I can see there are basically two types of external siren. There is the regular type of siren which is powered off the PowerMax directly, and the SCB type which additionally contains its own NiCad battery so that even if all the wires are cut it still sounds. Depending on the type of siren you need to adjust how it is connected to the PowerMax.  This is however all very well documented.

Thanks for the info Mark, I am probably going to go this unit.

Could you let me know where you bought your system. I have found it online at http://www.ttsfire.co.uk/diy_security.htm but your system would work out at > £800 from there. Definitely be interested in the software, I have downloaded the manuals already.

A couple of other questions if you don't mind;

Does the powersupply plug into a 13A socket (is it just a wall wart)?

Do you have an external siren - it looks look there might be problems powering one.

Thanks again,

Mark Hopley

I have recently installed the Visonic PowerMax at home, and have been very happy with it, and found it simple and inexpensive.  Whilst the PowerMax is not nearly as advanced as comfort PowerMax does almost everything I needed it to. The main points for me were:
