As a relative newcomer to this list I thought I'd add my own
perspective.

When I first subscribed the sheer volume of mail was a real
problem for me. Miss a day of catching up and suddenly I had
hundreds of unread emails which I just block deleted, but I did TRY
and read them. In fact I setup several filters to delete anything with
[OT] in it to try and reduce the volume. I almost banged out an
email about a separate list of the [OT] stuff in desperation! But I
didn't...

Since then I've changed my mind as a) whilst I'm still a stranger,
and haven't met any of you, nor done much on the HA front yet
myself, I've settled into the group and do enjoy a lot of it more now.
And b) I download my home email (ie this list) at work.

The latter point is key to my happiness level as I can keep up
during the day at work in the off moments and then delete most of
the messages quickly when I get home, keeping the interesting
ones.

I think my main point is that for newcomers there is definitely a
hurdle to cross given the sheer volume of emails and this can be
very off-putting. A short email mentioning this in more detail upon
subscription would be appreciated if there isn't one already.

Stuart
