I like the uncluttered, just not the ugly big box, that BTW is even heavier
than the A1, I nearly got a hernia just getting the sucker from the car to

Meridian AV, that's *NOT* an upgrade!

That's like having a 3-series beemer and saying, "oh, I think I'll
upgrade
to a McLaren F1" !!! ;o)

If SWMBO believes that one, tell me your line to her so I can try too!

Which limb are you donating to afford it?

I would *LOVE* a Meridian system with a full set of M&K THX speakers,
but
alas I don't earn enough for that, if I had that kind of dosh to spend on
AV
kit I would be in heaven, but short of a lottery win I don't see it anytime
soon.

I think I'll send Yamaha UK a mail and see if they can tell me what it's
about, I'll let you know.

I actually like the design of my A1 ... simple and unfussy. I know what you
mean about buying into the ladder though, I saw the A1 when it had just
been
brought in by Yamaha and bought what must have been one of the very first
units in the UK. I recently added a Rotel 5ch THX Ultra amp to it and it's
made a huge difference.

As Tim is aware my next "upgrade" is intended to be a Meridian AV
processor
...

Try asking Yamaha directly for details of the serial port protocols ...
they
have always been *VERY* helpfull to all of my Yamaha owning friends
including one owner of a DSP-A1000 (about 11 years old) where they went to
great lengths to source a volume control and input selector for it (the
parts had been out of production for several years) and not only found then
and sent him them but also sent a letter saying that there was to be no
charge!
