I too have never tried to get the data into
HV,
purely because the everything in life needs to talk to a COM port and my,
at the
time only PC, had just one COM port. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the
only
way of getting data into a standard HV is via the COM port (or you I guess
you
could use some funky X10 fudging). Nevertheless the machine now has
three
COM ports and is just waiting for me to get off my....
The Davis unit is cool, albeit a little
expensive
as a gadget, it bought with a real purpose in mind, to measure rainfall and
work
out weather to turn the sprinkler on and off, all too often my sprinklers
have
turned on when its raining, which is embarrasing (and wastefull)
They make a 900Mhz wireless unit, which bumps up the
prince
somewhat, the cheaper wired solution uses RJ11 and RJ45 connectors so it
shouldn't be too much of a job for me to extend it's
range.
Of course I don't, yet, have a solution
to
control the sprinker, other than a timer, but one day I'll get round to
it!

tried it, I only got it because i wanted to get some experiance with 1

might
be the best place to ask.
When I can afford it i am going to buy a
davis unit, Its a compleate system which can work without a
PC.
