Quick & dirty solution:

Wall-wart DC power pack connected plugged into the applicance module
together with the timer (using suitable 2-way adapter).
Wire wall-wart output to remotely mounted LED.
Hardly elegant, but it will work ok. I use a similar mechanism to
activate a strobe light when the phone rings.
