Ok,

well I've gone a bit mad ... I've been thinking of some projects and come
up with a list below (one of which already seems to be taking off). Most
are ethernet based ideas but there you go - you've all got loads of CAT5
running all over the house haven't you ;-)... the projects could also be
433mhz...

Here they are some are a little wild... feedback p-lease...

Project 001AP
=============

Ethernet <-> IR interface

IREDS -  Infa Red Ethernet Distribution System (for want of a better name)

Brief ideas
===========

Receiver = Emitter unit

Each receiver has an IP address which means that Zoneing would be simply a
matter
of sending the ir data to a specific group of ip adresses. Of course you
would
actually know what piece of kit had what ir emmiter.. eg Sony CD Player, ip
address 10.21.1.3  so you could target the specific device rather that
sending
the same IR data to all emitters.

Each zone would only require 1 CAT5 connection to the main box (either a PC
or
standalone unit) because you could just install a hub or switch locally to
increase ports

PC interface in the main box to allow it to send commands to zones

Main box could use internal storage ( see http://www.milinst.com/megastor.htm
)
for learnt IR commands


Project 002AP
=============

ERDU - 	Ethernet Remote Display Unit

433mhz/Ethernet Remote LCD display

Uses a PC interface to send remote information to LCDs via 433mhz/Ethernet

Each Receiver has an ID via dip switches so that it can see if the
message was destined for it

Host (PC) software can broadcast to ALL screens or just specific ones.

ESWITCH-AV - Ethernet Enabled A/V Switcher

Change sources via ip

Good for use with KAT5 units

EIF-SCAL - Ethernet Interface to Sony Control L/A

ERTM - Ethernet Remote Temperature Monitor

Brief ideas
===========

Each monitor can be queried, until it is queried it simply monitors the
temperature. This revents unwanted network traffic

Project 006AP

EIF-PS2 - Ethernet Interface to Sony Playstation 2 'joypad'

Brief ideas
===========

Interface the PS2 control pad so that it can be controlled remotely and
locally

Mainly for watching movies as the crap IR controller that's available is ..
well
crap.
