This DOES NOT apply to all TV's but quite a few follow this convention

SCART1	Composite or RGB
SCART2	Composite or S-Video

Selecting the wrong type of input will result in the following.

Wrong selection Composite/S-Video
...Black and White Picture or faint colours caused by bleedthrough in the
SCART lead.

Wrong selection Composite/RGB
... composite picture or faint B/W picture or no picture. This depends on
whether the RGB device outputs pure RGB+Sync or whether it outputs
composite
video as the sync signal.

SCART has an awful lot in common with RS232. Although it is defined as a
standard there are many different possibilities

I have the same problem, with my gear under the TV, though if I plug my
Dreamcast into SCART2 I get nothing at all, other than a black screen.

Also, the sound quality on SCART2 is a lot worse than SCART1 (it would have
to be for me to notice it)

It's a Philliphs 32" wide screen TV, rented from Box Clever.

I'm going to get the TV exchanged for another (quoting the above problems
as
the reason) so I'm not that bothered, but it's interesting that someone has
the same problem.
