6 and a half should do it, as A3 is double the size of A4.

With quality image processing software you can do a bicubic resample of the image to increase its size, and then use an unsharp mask to reduce artefacts, but not to more than about 120% of the original size.

Interesting does this mean that for A3 prints you would need a 12mpixel camera?

Mark,

If you want to print out A4 sized prints you'll need the S20. Print resolution needs to be at least 200 lines per inch (not the same as dpi, but related), and for that you'll need 3 mpixels. I learned all about this by going through the tutorial book "Adobe Photoshop 5.0 Studio Techniques" - it really is a useful guide for getting the best out of Photoshop.

If all you want it for is taking pictures for use on the web, then the S10 is more than sufficient. Most people format their pictures at 72 dpi for online use.

After the camera fest that was the London meet - I NEED a new digital camera :-)

My mate has a Canon S10 which is really everything I need (2.1 mega-pixel, Accepts IBM micro-drive, USB and has all the photo features I need).

I have found it on-line clearing (it's an old model) for 305 + VAT.  Anyone seen this any cheaper?

OR - anyone about to upgrade and got a digital camera to sell?

Thanks

M.
