Re: First MP3 results in - Tim eats his words!

Never really looked this myths section..

As for CD vs mp3, did you catch the part about the German CT magazine and
256K mp3's?

They got some professonals and took them to a recording studio, for DBT and
it suceeded pretty well.

As for 192K mp3, it take it you refer to VBR encoded. Its interesting that
you can hear a difference. I haven't really had the time to finish wiring
to
my amp for a decent playback, so I can't really comment.

I can however recommend a program for the real 'quality' people out their,
its called monkeys audio.

http://www.monkeysaudio.com/

It performes LOSSLESS compression on audio files. It is not anywhere near
as
compressed as mp3, but

1) can be played in winamp, and ff/rew just like wav/mp3
2) contains checksums.
3) can be converted back to wav

I archive to this at the moment, until I can DBT mp3's for myself on my
amp.

So if you rip to this, then archive it, when the real next wave of
compression comes along, that makes mp3's look really dumb, you just...
convert all the ape files back to wav, recompress, and your done.
