I answered my own question!! :)

Following some links from the SEG tech support page, I found some alternate
DDNS clients that perfectly easily detect the routers' external address,
and
register it..

The only thing is of course, that they cannot detect the IP address change
(as I suspected), so must be set to poll the router periodically.

I'm currently trying one caled yiPost from KVtek, that can only poll as
frequently as every 5 minutes, so in worst case, I could potentially have a
5 minute lag before correct IP is updated at dyndns...

better than no correct IP at all though eh!
