No, they are the same.

In theory, yes, they are backwards compatible, however in practice, it
seems
a bit hit & miss at best. - I have certainly had one instance where a
machine would not even run the motherboards BIOS POST when I connected an
ATA100 drive to its ATA66 connector. I have read numerous similar stories
of
such incompatabilities, so the only thing you can really do is "suck
it &
see"...
You probably don't have that much choice - if you're buying a new HDD,
you'be be hard pressed to get anythning less than an ATA100 model anyway!,
so if it doesn't work on your M/B then your best bet is to get one of the
Promise add-in ATA100 cards...
