Hi all! I've just joined your group (thanks to the moderator for
allowing me in).
I live up in the cold and wet of Scotland, just near Edinburgh. I've
done a fair bit in electronics, and come around to the thinking that
some of the tasks in the house could be automated, which lead me
here.
Having just joined, I don't want to be cheeky and upset anyone, but
in reply to this earlier post - move the radiator! This is one of the
projects on my list, to move almost all of my radiators away from
directly underneath the windows toward the centre of the room.
This will reduce heat loss through the windows a good deal,
especially if you do not have double glazing.
This is a little OT, but my plan is to make new radiators entirely
from 15mm copper pipe sprayed matt black, switched back and
forth ladder style, but mounted vertical with the supply at the top
and the return at the bottom (counter flow heat exchanger).
Reflective and insulating enclosures which maximise the output
into the room could be decorated and made a feature of
(modifications for shelves, hanging pictures, sculptures etc)
Care should be taken with pressurised water systems (mine is not
at the moment)
Hope that helps some.
Keith

I found the tracks over beside the "normal" curtain tracks, but
had
to
rummage to find the motors.
In one case, I found the motor hidden in behind a pile of net curtain
rods,
in another store they were in a battered "swish" display box. one
thing
is
for sure: these have not been flying off of the shelves. both of the
boxes
I
got were about three inches deep in dust.
okay, I'm exaggerating, but not by much!
As an aside, I had to use a bit of Gaffer tape (as a temporary
measure)
to
let the curtain slide msoothly past my radiators rather than
catching on
them, and not closing properly. Anyone have an ingenious solution
to
this?
Also, I see in the archives a mention of the pinouts for the K400
RJ11
sockets. Does nayone have this info? Kwong?
On, >yet< another note that's me and the Fully home automation
compliant
missus booked up for Hometech.. See you all there!
Ian.
