I have several 64Mb smartmedia cards for my Olympus 3030 and 64 meg CF
cards
in my ePods ... I'd not consider anything less than that for a decent
resolution camera nowadays.

I'd love an Olympus E10 for the times when you want something a bit better
than a snap - plus the E10 has the facility for a further 2.5x optical zoom
giving a 10x optical zoom. Add to that that a 1Gb Microdrive can be had for
about £399 if you shop around and suddenly uncompressed or minimally
compressed picture storage is a viable option.

The IXUS struck me as being rugged enough to survive the treks everywhere
that I sometimes worry about with my 3030 ... I lob my bag into my car each
night and only then remember that there's both my camera and my laptop in
there. The metal body seems hefty enough to count as an offensive weapon
although the 2x optical zoom would be a drag. The battery life of all
digital cameras pretty much sucks nowadays but at least the IXUS comes as
standard with a charger and a rechargeable battery. I am told it's a
universal voltage charger that comes with the IXUS as I was checking them
out for a relative the other week and I specifically asked that as he
travels quite a lot.
