A note of hope for those experiencing problems: I've had a Meteor
unit for a couple of years now, on two separate HH installations, and
it works flawlessly on both (using my own client software).

The only problems I have experienced was with one PC which provided
insufficient power on the serial ports to feed the CID device - maybe
the parisitic power thing is contributing to your problems?
