Better, but still not quite right, you see these connections are going to
be
visible, so I actually want the gold effect from an aesthetic point of
view.
The Maplin ones are perfect, but unavailable (unless anyone has seen them
in
another store). Surely there must be somewhere that sells the gold ones. I
intend to mount them all on a nicely stained piece of wood so that they
appear as 'natural' as is possible for 21st century kit to be in a 16th
century house. Sorry about being so picky ;-)

Graham,

232-487 can take 6mm cable and comes in a combined red/black pair.
Alternatively, you could consider soldering spade terminals onto the wires
and user them on standard 4mm terminal posts. Car Hi-Fi specialists should
have some gold plated ones that will take hefty cable.

Any better?

Thanks for that, but I have pretty big cable (cable talk 3.1) and prefer
using a bare wire connection rather than banana plugs, hence the 'screw
down' ones sold by maplin. Trouble is I can't seem to find those sold
separately.
