Can't find a manufacturers site for my Motherboard.

 

Make seems to be "EON" model is printed on the board as "BX6A" and displays on bootup as "MBX6A".

 

Anyone any ideas where I could get a BIOS update for this?  I have searched without turning anything up.

 

What is "ACPI" and does my MB have to have it in order for Win2K to shut itself off at close-down?

Two things to check:

 

1. Check that your motherboard/bios is listed at Microsoft.com/hcl. Win2k is more particular about ACPI requirements than either 98 or ME. If it fails any of the ACPI tests then it will not install ACPI, just PCI and APM

 

2. You can check for this in the device manager, under system devices.

 

It may be worth trying to upgrade to the latest bios/mainboard drivers. If ACPI is your problem there is a way of forcing it ton install, but I can't remember exactly how to do it. It does involve pressing a function key during the text mode portion of start up.

 

There is no way to upgrade to the ACPI HAL, you have to do a complete re-install.

 

Install the critical update notification package, and always install service packs as they become available. They do come with an uninstall facility, and generally they tend to fix any major security issues.

I installed SP1 and it seemed to work okay. It broke ZoneAlarm, though - you need a patch if you're running it.

I didn't install Win2K Service Pack 1 though...has anyone done this yet?
