Re: Last Night in London?

Well Kieran,

You certainly baffled me there. It just seems to me that a human/GUI interface is nothing more than remote control and not automation.

Perhaps you can advise. As i said i am looking to move my app from vb (win98) over to Linux. Could i use Java for this ? The local college has a FREE Java course.

Agreed, although Id prefer to offer all services in my software.  having spoken to John Weir on this group I am looking to use Tspaces from IBM to provide the linkage between GUI and control component.  I dont want to get into the details but it provides a nice linkage between data model, control components and GUI.  It also means you can run the server components without the need for a GUI.  Its got me thinking about implementing a macro lanaguage now.  Maybe I need a javascript interpreter ;-)

thanks

p/s Found some groovy stuff using vrml in java 3d.  think I might have found the ideal vehicle for my systems front end.  virtual movement through house and point/click -> on devices using a mouse click

In my own HA system i have tried to steer away from any kind of human interface. Isn't the whole idea to be automated ? My current system running on a pc using vb currently has a nice display for status and does take much input. It is mainly for testing. I am now considering moving it to Linux to run as a daemon without screen etc. If its automated and intellegent and running fine it doesn't need an interface - does it ?

I welcome the API idea for the 'PROJECT' as this would enable me to integrate into my existing 'appcon' & X10 (via comfort) stuff.

Steve.
