I was going to have a look and see if there was a way of just tapping into
the switch panel and faking controls using switch closure contacts (such as
a relay)...

By the way ... managed to "integrate" the AC in the garage into
the
inventory. Just mentioned to the in laws this morning that because it's hot
today would they like to borrow the other AC unit that I'd bought that was
in the garage not doing anything yet. SWMBO didn't appear to twig...
