Definately the case.

My Jukebox machine just has Win98SE PWS (soon to be Win2K Server IIS)and
apart from the odd wobbly when it boots up wanting to use the non existant
monitor instead of TV its fine.

My Desktop (Win98SE) takes ages to boot and ages to shutdown due to all the
crud running and stuff that has been installed and is no longer used etc.
Also crashes when I do just a bit too much. Hope to replace with a 1Gig
Athlon later this year :-)

Sharons desktop machine (Win98) just used for browsing the net and a few
kiddies CD's shuts down in about 10 seconds.

Laptop - Creaks all the time - often fails to shutdown. Due to be rebuilt
when i find time.

Keith

That's a great point John! I think this is one of the main reasons Windows
gets such a bad name. One of the girls in my office has had her PC for
three years without so much as crash never mind a Windows re-install. She
uses about 3 applications on it, never installs/uninstalls any other
"crap"
and it runs like a dream.

My "Mark" and "Eddie" machines in the study have LOADS
of stuff on them and
generally have been formatted and re-built every 6-12 months.

My "Otto" machine is the house HA server - and that's it. As you
can see
it's very stable. I wouldn't try and use an "all-purpose" PC to
do the HA
stuff and all the other PC duties.

M.
