Ah another convert(!)

Ian Bird is doing the same thing using RS Components 12v valves at 9 quid
or
so a piece (using HomeVision).  I think for a 2 port valve, it is as simple
as ON=OPEN and OFF=CLOSED (the 3 port mid position ones are trickier as
there are 5 wires!).

The only problem is that the CH valves might not be able to handle mains
water pressure (my 3 port valve is in a gravity fed system with a CH pump).
Also, the fittings are 22mm so you would have to use reducing couplings

to change up from 15mm and back
down again.  If you do this you will need a short section of 22mm copper
tube - I have a spare foot or so and for a pint could solder the reducers
on
and leave you with a 15mm tail at each end you could join with compression
fittings (that's if you can't/don't want to solder yourself!).
