Even if you are not sure your skills fit, give it a go.

Even if there is a area you would like to learn about, but dont feel
you know much about it, joining in a small team like this will be a
great learning opportunity, the next device we tackle you will have a
head start.

My hardware skills are a well short of Keiths, but i enjoy learning
from him through this sort of development. I have also learnt a bit
about internet protocols from the discussions that have been running
on that topic.

If in doubt... go for it. You can always back out later if it is not
for you.
