You can have MCB's but they arent as fast as Hi Speed Ceramic fuses
therefor
you need much more rugged triacs.

Change the bulbs before you go away ;-)

The reason bulbs seem to go in groups is that you fit 12 downlighters in a
room. Bulbs have a life of say 1000 hours on average. Some will fail at
900,
950, 1000, 1050,1100 etc. All the initial set of bulbs will fail within a
fairly short timespan. As they get replaced the intervals will space
themselves out. If you have 12 bulbs on a circuit you will replace 12 bulbs
every 1000 hours, over time it will average out to be one every 80-100
hours.

The lanlord at a pub where I used to DJ was moaning that he as changing a
bulb every other day. I ran the theory by him explaining that he had 10
fixtures with 5 bulbs each giving a total of 50 bulbs therefore on average
he would replace one every 20 hours. His lights were on about 10 hours per
day so one bulb every other day. I suggested he change all the bulbs in one
go and he wouldnt have to change another for about 3 months, but they would
then all fail within the next couple of weeks. I didnt catch the full
reply
but it ended in "Off"

Is there be any way to protect the device in a more 'friendly' fashion
that doesn't blow triacs or fuses when a bulb goes ? ( I am guessing not as
the other manufacturers would have done something.)

It really winds me up changing fuses in the X10 lamp modules, and wall
switches every time a bulb goes. It's also a real pain for holiday times
when you have timed security setups. I always come back to darkness & a
blown fuse it seems.

Also is there any truth in the perception that bulbs tend to blow in
groups at the same time ? It sure seems to happen to me !
