Tim
you
probably have more true HA stuff installed than I do so far (I am a PC
freak at heart not HA) and I know I too have been responsible for off topic
posts mainly because I trust the people here to give me sensible
answers.
Your
knowledge on gas barbecues sure helped me I am now 'cooking on
gas'.
I think we can all learn a lot here, I for one am
dusting off my soldering iron afer 20 years ! I had to get into my parents
loft
to find it!
So lets all stick around and
enjoy
Mick
Firstly
apologies
for numerous off topic posts.
Secondly, I
have
considered un-subscribing from the list recently, as from a Home Automation
perspective it is more than a little hard-core for me - Phil will tell you,
I've got four X10 dimmers, 3 drapeboss motors, and a solenoid door latch on
my
Yale - not exactly HA, but it does make life in a wheelchair a little
easier
:) A PC based HA server with an iPAQ (which came back from a repair today
in 4
working days, to remove dust under the screen, and fix the stylus silo - I
also dropped it and cracked the case by the record button - new screen, new
system board, and new back half of the case all under warranty - PLUS it
has a
new serial number so the warranty now runs out 2 years after I bought it),
or
my soon to be delivered Sony Vaio Picturebook (http://www.sonystyle.com/vaio/picturebook/glamour.htm)
as a client might persuade me to install some more
toys.
However, I
really
do feel that I've become part of a community (even during the occasional
.mp3
fight with Mark :) ) and would miss you all if I did leave. I belong to
half a
dozen mailing lists, and frequent a dozen or so groups on the Usenet on a
regular basis. This is the only list where I genuinely feel I'm talking
with
friends, and I think the numerous off topic posts made by all of us on
occasion is a symptom of this. It doesn't happen anywhere else for fear of
"Net nazis" pouncing on posters.
Apart from that
it
is one of the best PC support forums on the 'net!
I do feel I've
got
some expertise in some areas, so I'll stick around and contribute where I
can.
And if anyone
finds themselves passing through Surrey and wants to find out what
real home cinema sounds like, they'll always be
welcome.
Tim.
