X10 is simply for controlling appliances over mains wiring, this is pretty
much restricted to on/off/dim/bright it is of no use for other elements of
'smart homes' like computer networking, audio/video distribution, phone,
alarm etc etc. For this you need the CAT5. I use 4 port 2 gang plates in
most of my rooms with more than one of these in some rooms. My office
actually has 14 CAT5 outlets but needs more. My lounge has 12. You can get
4
outlets in a 1 gang plate, but the cables are going to be pretty tight.
