Can't HV control relays to switch either line or speaker outputs to
each zone? Assuming this is practical from a wiring perspective, I
think it then becomes a piece of cake. You may not need to switch
every speaker - zone 1 could comprise of all rooms downstairs, zone 2
kids bedroom, zone 3 the rest. Or something.
If you switch the amplified output, depending on the amp, you may
need to switch in a dummy load in place of the speaker.
HV can also implement the actual "business logic" to decide when
a
zone is active/inactive.
