Re: BT caller ID(again)

Title: RE: [ukha_d] BT caller ID(again)
With regard t modems that work, I had a hayes modem working, as I posted t the group, and it worked very well as I recall, but I had to hack drivers t gether.. Sadly, the machine with the driver died due to a faulty IBM 75 GXP drive (Don't get me started on that one) so I'm going to have to hack the driver t gether again, which I will attempt t do today.

This driver is under win2k, and is for hayes accura modems, model number 5670..

As for the modems availability Hayes tech support say...

<<SNIP>>
We have dropped CID with the Accura range. All we now have is the Optima
Business modem, PN 08-03157. This unit should be around for a while as it
has just had a revision made.
<<SNIP>>
OLITEC also have callerid capable modems on the way, any v.92 model will support uk caller id. Had this confirmed by OLITEC support people a couple of weeks ago. No set date on availability.

Hope this helps..

Justin,
I never really expected these to work with BT's CID as it's so different to Bellcore/CCA version's
but as I needed a modem anyway I bought one of the Ambient based ones along with another Connexant based one t try for a friend. They both work with Homeseer, but I have found the Connexant one more reliable when dialling in with my mobile. The echo is worse and seems t upset the Ambient modem when this is used.

I'll be interested in a group buy on Meteors if anyone else wants one.

John

I'm sorry to hear that as it was me who started the whole £15 caller id
modem thing.
As I have said previously I'm with NTL but I didn't think caller id stuff
was that different.
A few things t try before giving up completely:

Make sure the international setting in the Ham control panel is set t USA.
Use a terminal program to check caller id before trying anything fancy (e.g
HomeSeer Phone).
The modem has to be initialised with at+vcid=1 the response should be "ok"
if not it's not the same modem.

I hope the above helps, if not it looks like the Meteor would be your best
bet, in fact I wouldn't mind one myself to play around as I like the
advanced features on this unit.
There seems t be a few people on this list who want one of these. I wonder
if there would be any mileage in a group buy?

Justin
