I have had modules go pop when a bulb blows- either the triac or the
varistor went bang, often with a bit of acrid smoke exiting the unit.

If you are confident with a soldering iron, take a look at:

There's details on typical faults for X10 kit. I've sucessfully
modified US 110v kit t  work on 240v using this site.

Take a look inside- the blown component could be as obvious as my own

Of course, a charred part could only be a symptom of a more complex
fault, and cause a more dangerous failure second time around. Be
careful- I'd build a test rig with a batten lampholder, cased switch
and a earth leackage circuit breaker (the sort used for power t ols).
