Re: ISDN routing

Title: Re: [ukha_d] ISDN routing
Yep you can bond (as they say) all the four 64K channels into one 256K. You are of course paying for 4 simultaneous calls. There are a lot of products that will do this. Just a couple of points
        1) Your ISP account must support this - ie a full blown business one.
        2) Don't know what your voice telephony setup is but if you have a PRI rate (fibre) incoming voice connection to your switch then it is actually provided as a number of digital 64K channels up to a maximum of 30 on one cable. If your switchboard offers ISDN connections to extensions (sometimes called BRI ports) then you can use these rather than the ISDN2 lines. Your router then can have the ability to capture a varying number of lines upt the 30 max (2MB) to give you a bandwidth on demand type operation - ie more when you need it less when you dont - a fancy switch may even have an E1 interface ont it to allow you t grab channels and bond them without the ISDN 64K ports and the router. This may allow you t release the ISDN2 lines and pool them better with voice calls.

OK, thanks to TeleWest backing out of providing us with a 2Mbps line
(although we'd signed a contract, they decided it was t o expensive to dig
up the road unless we signed up for 2 years) we are back to plan B.

We have 2 ISDN lines (and are currently using 1 64k channel on 1 line for
dialup ISP - BTInternet <spit>).  Cisco say they can provide us with a
router/box that will connect all 4 channels and give us 256K access.  Don't
know how much or what they are proposing, but I thought I'd help our system
admin by asking you lot if there are alternatives that you could recommend
(or warn against) so we can compare what's about.
