Title: Re: [ukha_d] CD/DVD Jukeboxes
One
thing to watch with the Sony 300 player (and I guess probably the 400
too) is that Sony only implemented part of the sLink interface.
Previously on their multi CD players you had full control of the unit
(bi-directional data). This gave you the ability to use products like
sLink-e t catalogue your collections on a PC automatically using the
internet CDDB and the lyrics databases. The title info could then be
loaded back int the changer - much easier than a PS2 keyboard ! I use
both a 200 and a 300 unit. Just moved house btw - they hate that, the
disks don't settle back int their slots well !
The
audio quality on the units is quite variable too, certainly the 300
disk (CD only) was a poor unit compared to the 200. If you use an
external DAC then this is much less of an issue. The 300 CD/DVD got
mixed reviews , some praised it for both CD and DVD and some were
quite critical , particularly on the audio side. Value for money wise
the 400 seems well regarded, although a dedicated player, of either
variety , will give you better performance of course.
Nirvis
(www.nirvis.com) make the sLink-e interface that connects PC's t Sony
products via Sonys' S Link bus. LetsAutomate have the units available
in the UK. Take a look at their site as it tells you the capabilities
of each of the players available.
Kevin
I don't think this is off topic?!
I am looking for a CD/DVD jukebox, in the order of 300-400 discs,
My inital search has shown 2 sony products, a 400 disc CD, and a
300
Disc DVD machine, does anyone have any experience with either of
these?
- I asked in the sony shop at the weekend, and it seems the only
way
to get the CD Text info in and out of these machines, is by
connecting a PS/2 keyboard, which is ok, but I would prefer to
connect my PC t download the data in one hit. (400 discs is alot
of
info t type in again when you already have it on the PC!)
I realise that at £300 for the CD version and £500 for the DVD I
am
not going to get amazing quality, but these units do seem to offer
quite good features for the money.
Your thoughts on these, or better products t consider would be
appreciated........
thanks
Daniel
