The
wife is extremely unconvinced that I will be able t install the thing
without
bringing down the house. Does anyone know if it is possible t encase
this
type of unit and duct the cool air in t the house?
This
type of approach would be a lot easier, the unit can be controlled via X10
as it
has manual rotary controls. However would the output performance
suffer if
it's air intake (at the front), which is normally in the room, is drawing
it's
air source from the exterior?
Answers on a postcard please...
Steven
Then
- happily - I stand corrected. These sound like different units t those
that
I've seen previously.
Phil
This unit seems t be in a different league t the
monobloc from B & Q, it's turned the room and neighbouring corridor in
t a freezer compartment in the space of two hours. Noise wise,
almost
silent inside with a light humming on the exterior, you
could easily sleep through it even on full
power.
The big headache will be how t install it through
the brick wall. I have the mounting kit but I think it will be a good
challenge t chop out a 2ft by 1ft slot in a double-brick wall (time t
check the insurance). Wickes seem t have a surplus of these things
in
the Hertfordshire area, which may be a bad sign.
Steven
Actually this is a sensible comment but badly put ... those single
unit ACs were originally intended for installation in US windows (similar
to our ols sash windows) hence the name window rattlers. They had the
reputation for being unefficient, noisy and only lasting a couple of
years. These ones *MAY* be different but again as effectively a single
unit AC I'd be wary...
Phil
Beware the window rattlers!
Phil
After the
earlier problems the Homebase unit is going back, just wasn't up t
the job. I have now found a unit at Wickes that is designed for
through-wall mounting. Has anyone experience of these units and
imparticular variations on the mounting options?
Steven
