Mines been on 24/3 but thats due to the weather and being british wont last.

Doesn't mean much to me either way unfortunately but if automating
the unit is not an option, I guess it has to be on pretty much 24/7.
How badly is this likely to affect the unit?

For the last few years I have had the window open and a fan on
throughout the night (timing controlled by X10 from the PC
with "local" control on a mini timer) all year to get the bedroom
cold enough to comfortably sleep in so I am likely to use the unit
during the winter as well.
