Thats what worries me about what they propose.

To record a second channel you d need 2 tuners, however you could then
record the digital bitstream.

What worries me is the playback, t convert the digital bitstream t video
requires an MPEG decoder. There is already ONE in the box that you use for
normal viewing. If they include a second then there should be no logical
reason why you cant WATCH a second channel.

If however they DONT put a second MPEG decoder in the box you would have t
use the normal decoder for playback of recorded material. Whilst you would
be able to record a second program at the same time as viewing a different
channel it would mean that when you came t watch what you had recorded you
would LOSE ALL REAL TIME SKY even though you had 2 tuners.

By recording the digital bitstream straight off air they dont have t worry
about encryption until playback time either.

I hope my cynicysm is misplaced and they will allow dual live viewing but
as
they have announce the intention for multioutput boxes as well I suspect
the
worst :-((

With dual LNB, dual cable and dual tuner, can you watch two different
channels at once? The press release only mentions recording another
channel. If not, has anyone heard of any enterprising individuals
looking to "engineer" such a solution. By enterprising, I mean
the
sort of bloke that supplies gold cards for onD boxes etc ;)
