Hi Mick,
Probably a bit late now but...
I would have t  say you will find it difficult to beat Epson printers for
image quality. We have recently purchased a 1290 which uses light cyan
&
light magenta as well as regular CMYK. This helps a lot.
The 1290 compares well with our Epson proofer which cost about £5000 a few
years ago!
