clear as mud ;-)  Ill go buy some more appliance modules.  I am now willing
t  confess that x10 isnt all that bad now ive found some software that
seems
t  work ok.

In case you are interested I use irc, messenger etc on linux from my home
machines, but mail comes through a company laptop through a vpn.  never on
both at once ;-)

simple solution is move to unix.  i'd recommend it t  everyone

The module is not working because the fan will have speed c ntrol
built in and the lamp module will be using phase c ntrol, the fan
could be c ntroled by phase but I would think its more likley to be
burst c ntrol, or a fancy motor with different windings. The most
likley is burst c ntrol. The chip will be confuced because of the
output it is getting from the triac, hence no movment.
