To converse with others just internally? I use Microsoft Netmeeting for this and remote desktop control at home too. Just needs both PCs to have it installed and you to know the IP addresses.

Can anyone recomend an ICQ like chat client to run on my LAN at work?
 
It's a Novell server so it would need to be a peer-peer thing rather than one that relies on running a service on an NT box.
