Well I now have a hacked ePOD infront of me (and three more in boxes) and
guess what, the power supply is 100-240 with a standard figure of eight
connector, hooray ! So all I need now is some network cards. I wanted to go
the Linksys wireless route, but can not find any suppliers in the UK. So I
think it may be Proxim Symphony cards with the bridge to allow me to plug
in
anywhere (my house is soon to be flood-wired with CAT5 so I can do lots of
experimenting with best positions - ooer!).
Right now I am going to try to get Active sync working, just as soon as I
can find my laplink cable. I will get round to writing a review, but will
probably wait until I have at least one ePOD surfing my LAN and the
internet
through the router.
First impressions:
- they are very nice looking (blue/silver in colour and very thin),
- feel good in the hand,
- probably would need a stand for prolonged use (I know someone mentioned a
'kitchen recipe book stand' as being ideal)
- respond well to 'clicks' with the stylus and my chubby little fingers
- reasonable display (backlit) though I will try the hack to give more
colours
- an amazing array of ports on the back, though I will eventually only use
pcmcia i guess
- I still can't believe I have this infront of me for the same sort of
money
as I paid for my Pronto, half the cost of an iPAQ, this really is the best
deal I have ever had with technology.
Regards
Graham
PS. I resisted taking a picture of the four ePODs and putting it up on the
web, but only just ;-)
