I remember their being various threads in the past covering the subjects of iButtons and electric door strikes.  However Fingerprint Readers never really came into it, there was certainly no mention of any makes tried or tested, which is what I am interested in.

Here we go again :-)

There was a long running thread a few months ago about using electric
sensors and latrches etc for the front door. The pro's and con's etc.

There were just as many arguments against it as there were for it, so it
was a fairly neutral outcome.

I seem to remember iButtons being very prominent in the discusion so that
might help you in a search of the archive.
