I had the same attitude when I had a cablemodem when I lived in Farnham ...
out here in the sticks though I'm still waiting for NTL to get their act
sorted out and the service implemented. At least that's only £20 a month
now
which is a damn good deal.

If BT could sort out their ADSL service round here then maybe I'd consider
that too ... however since they spent so long insisting that I couldn't get
Home Highway as my local exchange didn't support it - when what I was
trying
to arrange was for them to *REMOVE* the existing Home Highway equipment in
this house and just fit us a standard analogue line (£50 a month for Home
Highway is highway robbery so I decided not to keep it) then they quite
obviously still don't know their a*rse from their elbow!
