There is loads of information here http://www.geocities.com/epodsfiles/
especially in the discussion section, but basically the unit is no longer
subject to a subscription as the ISP went bust and it has been hacked so
that you can connect to your own ISP. There are details on the site of
people running them with wireless LAN cards (they have a PCMCIA slot) as
well as GPS and various other tricks. I intend to use the browser to
control
my HA stuff (when it is installed and I have designed the home web site),
probably with one in the lounge and one in the kitchen (thinking of
building
it in to a cupboard door) which I may use for things like holding grocery
list (when I get round to designing it). They are an amazing piece of kit
for almost no money (compare prices with other webpads !).
Ordering over the web, or by any means, has been very difficult recently as
all stores are out of stock and there is probably some confusion over
availability since ISP went bust. I was tempted to buy more, but thought I
would try with a couple first. According to a recent post on the site
mentioned above, 10,000 units were made and only 250 sold before they went
bust. If this is true then more should start appearing, but now that the
hack is known, they are selling incredibly fast.
When they finally arrive and I get to play with them I will of course put a
review on Marks site. I warn you though, if they are as good as I think
they
are and will do what I want them to do, then I will be fighting to get more
myself !
Regards
Graham
