I've just seen something that may interest you then.. (and a few others who
are getting into wireless LAN's)

Netgear have a new range of 11MB wireless LAN stuff out which does NOT
employ an access station - only the client nodes are required, and they
operate in a peer network.

The access point is typically the most expensive bit by far, for example:

Cisco 340 series = £845
3COM Airconnect = £599
Intel Pro/Wireless = £599

With client nodes usually costing around the £120 mark in most cases.

The new Netgear range only needs the client nodes, which go for £139 each
in
either PCI or USB versions (no PC-Card version AFAIK), or better still, a
2-node starter pack for the princely sum of £209

(All prices quoted are EX VAT)

Unless you HAVE to have a PC-Card version, this looks like an excellent
solution. Features are quoted as:

11MB speed
150 foot range
Hardware error correction
Data encryption
Priority given to streaming audio/video traffic
5 year warranty
Auto frequency hopping to avoid interference.

could be worth a look.
