And I've got no idea of your experience in Linux, but so far I've never
had to setup a modem under Linux, I just point /dev/modem to com1 [or
whatever you use] and erm ... use it! Have you checked the hardware
supported list for the distro you're using [sorry, not meant to be
patronising].

Which distro or package are you planning to use as the router/firewall?
I use smoothwall [www.smoothwall.org] to protect my network, and just
check out the future planned functionality :-)
