There are some good hardware add-ons available to make the Palms IR range
useful in this role.  Definitely worth pursuing if you have an unused one
lying around.

For me, there are three "zero-regret" purchases that I have made
in HA so
far...

In no particular order...

1. HomeVision
2. Comfort
3. Pronto
