I've just finished reading the Bik EF Sensors user manual. They were
mentioned in another thread earlier this week.

After reading the specs it seem to me that this would be an ideal way to
detect occupancy of a room. Basically what it does is detact the presence
of
a "body" in the electric field of two poles. For example two
poles across the
underside of your couch, when you're sat on the couch, it detects you.
Couple
this with X10 PIR's to detect when you actually enter the room and you have
a
better system for detecting occupancy.
