If I wanted to just set-up a small system to test voice recognition with 1 ceiling mounted microphone can I do this without a mixer? I.e. can I just use a XLR->phono converter (assuming such a thing exists) and plug that microphone directly into my sound card? (I can't think of any reason why not).
