I've got this setup on my MP3 PC. Two outputs coming from two dedicated
MP3
player dongles, both feeding into my amp via a passive mixer (basically two
resisters Keith describes).

Works well.

As per my previous answer, the output level isnt a problem, the amp will
handle that and you can always turn down the PC volume.

The problem comes from the low output impedance of modern audio equipment.
It is often near zero impedance so looking into the output of a soundcard
or
CD player you effectivly see a short circuit to ground. This will severely
attenuate the output of a parallel connected device.

By using the 1K resistors the output of each PC will be attenuated by 3dB
but if it ends up too low (which is unlikely) just increase the output from
the PC.
