I’ve just found the Siemens
press
release. The 4175 also seems to include an ISDN router for wireless PC
access –
it has only just been launched and comes in at 255 EUR (£155) or 205
for
the 4170 without answerphone. It also has a fax machine built in which will
allow any PC to cordlessly receive fax. Instead of configuring from the
handset
all set up is done via the PC.

PBXs
I'm not sure whether BT still market it. The base
station is
the Diverse ISDN (8" square box that mounts on the wall), and it works
with any of the Diverse handsets from BT.
When I bought mine it wasn't available in the UK, but I
took
advantage of the fact that approvals for all EuroISDN equipment are
pan-European and bought it from a German dealer. He's no longer in business
but
a net search will I'm sure turn up ome suitable alternatives. The only
downside
is that German retailers tend not to take credit cards so you'll have to
take
your life in your hands and pay by bank transfer. My base station is the
2060
which is no longer in production, but the 4170 or 4175 are much improved
versions (not yet available in the UK.)

I bought a couple of the “Micro” handsets to
replace handsets which my brother destroyed when he was more than a bit
pissed
(!) recently, and they are very impressive – tiny and feature
packed.
One of the nice features (which Phil and James have
experienced) is that you can set up one of the "wired" devices to
be
a door entry phone, and open the door from any of the
handsets.
If you do find a reliable on-line retailer let me know,
as
I’ll get a 4175 for myself before I move.
Tim.
