I think I know this one...

It's "technically" true..
All they have done is take a DVD Ripper, VOB Convertor, MPEG2 Codec and CD
Burner in one package.
It reads your DVD, does a stack of processing, and writes a VCD format
Disc.. Almost all hardware DVD players can play VCD's too...

What you lose, of course, is quality.

You can copy your DVD's to CDR in DivX format, with much better quality,
using lots of freely available software from the Net. In the Christmas
Spirit.. Here you go ;)

This decrypts your DVD, and creates a set of VOB files on your Hard drive:

http://www.flexion.org/dvddecrypter/

This converts those VOB files to an AVI....

d/download.php?id=14&appli=Xmpeg%204.2a

And you need the Divx4 Codecs installed..

http://www.divx.com/divx/

This util lets you work out what to set the codec values to to fit on a
CDR..

also, add some serious oomph. I now have an Athlon XP 1600+, and a fast
board with 256Mb of DDR SDRAM. at this level, the AVI conversion process
gets about 30fps, so it's a bit faster than realtime.. on a PIII800EB, it
got about 12fps, so it took about 2.5x film length to render..

have fun :)

Ian.

Sounds like absolute bollocks to me ... especially when in the small print
there's "Furthermore, you agree to waive all liabilities associated
with
this program to the provider and their associates. "
