From digging around it seems that the producer and co-writer of Thunderball actually managed to win a legal dispute which meant that he could make a Bond film as long as it was bassed upon the story that he co-wrote (Thunderball).

It seems that without either the usual James Bond music (which MGM held the rights for) and the accepted M, Q and Miss Moneypenny (plus the handicap of Sean Connery being somewhat past his bird pulling Bond best) then it flopped, even when pitched against the then current "official" Bond movie "Octopussy" - which isn't exactly the best either!

That would be because it isn't an MGM bond film, but one Sony managed to get a license for.  I think it is also a remake of thunderball.

Just been in my local MVC ths morning and saw "Never Say Never Again" (Sean Connery) on the shelf ... though to myself "I don't remember seeing that" and sure enough, on checking at home that DVD isn't in the box set.

Anyone know why?

Phil
